Our Mission

The Abilene Preservation League is a non-profit organization established in 1977 to preserve historic properties and promote preservation in Abilene, Texas.

Today, it continues to honor the mission of those pioneering individuals by promoting alternatives to demolition when structures or sites are threatened with loss, due to neglect and deterioration, or new site development. The Abilene Preservation League also promotes increased public awareness and participates with other public and private organizations to save, restore and preserve historically significant structures.

The Elks Arts Center, pictured right, is our headquarters.

APL at Abilene's 25th Annual City Sidewalks Parade!

Abilene's 25th Annual City Sidewalks Parade was held downtown, Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:30 p.m. The Abilene Preservation League participated in this community event with a float depicting Abilene's downtown skyline - representing the historic homes and properties that we have preserved and restored, and those we hope to in the future.

Board members and staff dressed for the occasion by wearing sparkly Santa hats, lit up Christmas trees, period pieces, train conductor uniforms, and even a house decorated for the season! It was a wonderful evening with friends, family, co-workers, board members, community, and fellow preservationists, and we look forward to participating next year!
